After being stung by hostile critics and an indifferent public in previous Saskatoon Corporate Challenge videos, WMCZ Lawyers in Saskatoon has turned to acclaimed director Steven Spielberg to direct their 2014 effort.
According to WMCZ, it’s a recognition of the fact that their previous efforts haven’t resonated with the public. “We realized that critical success doesn’t mean squat if nobody sees your film and who better than the Academy Award winning director of such favourites as E.T., Saving Private Ryan and The Color Purple,” said WMCZ Corporate Challenge Captain Kelly Bode. “Of course, we haven’t even had critical success in the past so the only direction is up.”
Spielberg is in Antarctica, rumoured to be filming a sequel to March of the Penguins using human actors in costume. Calls to him and his agent were not returned.
The 2014 Saskatoon Corporate Challenge starts September 8 and runs for 6 days. Team videos are due by August 15 and will be posted soon after on the Challenge’s Facebook page. More details will follow when available.
EDIT August 14, 2014, 11:00 AM: WMCZ Lawyers has announced that Steven Spielberg has withdrawn from directing the company’s video citing personal reasons. WMCZ has commissioned famed director Michael Bay to develop the video, despite the tight 24 hour timeline.
EDIT #2 August 14, 2014, 11:15 AM: WMCZ Lawyers has announced that Michael Bay has withdrawn from directing the company’s video citing personal reasons. WMCZ has commissioned little known director Cecil Vandalay to develop the video. Vandalay is best known for training videos on YouTube, including “How to delete a sentence in Microsoft Word 2013” and his 3 part series “How to delete a paragraph in Microsoft Word 2013”.
EDIT August 27, 2014 8:00 AM: The video is now available here. Critics are using words like “stunning”, “mind boggling”, “unbelievable” and other words that need context to determine what they really mean.
